SP 50-Foot Exterior Post Lumber Boxcar Presentation

I recently presented a clinic at the Bay Area Prototype Modelers Meet in Richmond, CA, on SP's 50' Plate C exterior-post lumber boxcars. Per request, I'm offering a PDF version of the PowerPoint presentation file on this site, and you can view it here:

SP Modern 50-Foot Exterior Post Lumber Boxcars by Rick Selby
(Links to a shared Microsoft OneDrive PDF file).

While you won't get the talk track that went along with the slides during the actual presentation, the PDF file contains the slide stack and lots of useful data on the PCF and FMC cars, including spotting features for each class/sub-class group, and many roster images not otherwise available on the web. All images are from the Rick Selby and Rod Loder collections, or by photographers (Brian Rutherford and Rick Selby) as noted. Copyright remains with the photographer.

Also included in this presentation are numerous stencil drawing scans for both PCF and FMC boxcar classes; these are scans of the actual drawings used to letter the cars at PCF and FMC during manufacturing, and provide lots of insight into the lettering placement and configuration. You can view the scans as part of the presentation, or view the high-resolution versions using the links below:

I hope you enjoy this information on Espee's huge PCF and FMC 50' boxcar fleet. While here at the site, please browse options for both SP boxcar decals and models that you can use to recreate these cars in HO scale. And check back frequently, as there are many more custom-run products planned in the coming months, for SP fans and others alike.
